E-learning Programme launched by Delhi administration for state government schools during the surge of Covid 19 got acknowledged globally. 20 countries including New Zealand, UK, USA, Germany, Singapore, Canada, Philippines, Malaysia and Nepal signed in for learning content. As it was uploaded with free access, the flow of response it got across the world, praised Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s step in education sector.

Kejriwal administration’s zeal in upgrading health and education infrastructure in the capital is out there. Delhi citizens are quite satisfied with the current administration and allowed them to go back to that seat. AAP MLA Atishi last month took governance model of CM Kejriwal to a different level after she represented it at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Speech delivered by her at ‘Malmo Summit: ICLEI World Congress 2021-22’ in Sweden described every past work, plans and policies Delhi administration had worked on and what future they are looking at. During Kejriwal’s span of work, Delhi government schools scored 98% result in CBSE 12th examinations. Around more than 50 students from these schools have cleared JEE Advance and approximately 569 students passed NEET. 10 of the schools ranked as Top 10 government schools in India 2020-21.

Not only in providing quality of education, building and formation of new classrooms has enhanced education infrastructure of Delhi, a level up. From distributing ration and mid day meal to conducting conferences with global panelists, from achieving highest score in Niti Aayog’s National Innovation Index to including multiple curriculum activities, Delhi government schools have increased its popularity domestically and globally.

What actually is making Delhi education model acknowledgeable and acceptable easily? Priyanka is a school teacher at a Delhi government school and is associated with it from past 10 years. She shared the noticeable changes during these years and said, ‘The kind of changes we as a teacher noticed are quite positive for students’ betterment and developed mindset. Earlier, it was a stable graph of education with set number of assignments and classes but now lot of other activities are added, like conferences, online sessions and we are marking great attendance with higher amount of enthusiast in our students.’ Talking about a student’s growth, Priyanka told EAT news that knowledge on paper is not something that comprises the whole education. ‘A school needs to take responsibility of child’s growth mentally too. Apart from textbooks and Homework, there are other engaging activities that should be included to make this journey more fun and intellectual. And today’s Delhi administration is reaching to that point in making this work’, she said.

Priyanka conducts assignments once in a week but in her way. She said, ‘Since our education now rely on grades than numbers, we are said to give certain assignments for the marking. But I try to make it intellectual and engaging so that students don’t have to drain their energy only on completing it. I try for them to make it look like tasks that requires a little more mind opening.’ Recently the school invited panelists for an online session about ‘Career counselling’ for high school students. Alongside, a guest lecture was organized for an important topic ‘Reproduction’ for a better understanding.

But the recent launch of e-learning portal by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia in 2020 proved a major helping hand in pandemic for every student. The portal called LEAD- Learning through E-resources Made accessible for Delhi includes instruction materials and course content for class 1 to 12. Priyanka said, ‘Yes, the portal was easily accessible and many students visited it during the pandemic and even still. There are lot of instructions and content we forget or leave behind. It is a helping hand for teachers as well.’ The portal mentions syllabus as per NCERT, CBSE and Delhi administration’s curriculum. It provides digital QR coded textbooks, question papers, explanatory videos and evaluation process.

Sisodia in one of his statements given to press said, ‘It is a way for us to connect and share our programmes and country. The online portal will also enable us to learn from the teaching-learning experiments and experiences of other states. It is going to be a mutual sharing and enlightening experience for all us.’ After getting worthwhile response for e-learning portal, ‘virtual model of education’ is on the list for Delhi administration with the motive to make it accessible to every student across the globe. Calling it a dream project, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his interview in 2021 said, ‘We want to create world’s first virtual Delhi Model school. It is a dream project that we involved in the budget of this year, a classroom without walls.’

Delhi administration is setting example of their incredible work in education sector and making it recognized worldwide. ‘Education is a core foundation of any place and one important sector to be looked on. We need more political interference to make this sector better for our future generation’, said Priyanka. Delhi administration’s effort in improving India’s education and with a vision to right direction is getting noticed globally.
