Ukraine had accused Iran of sending drones to Russia a while back. An immediate refusal followed the accusation by the Middle East country, then an admission afterwards.
According to the United States government, the relationship between Russia and Iran has matured to a fully developed defensive allegiance. John Kirby, the US national security council spokesman, told the media that Russia was handing out unprecedented military aid. John added that the US is aware of reports suggesting that the two countries are considering a joint move to produce lethal drones.
These reports come after Ukraine had accused Iran of sending the ‘kamikaze’ drones to Russia. Russia used these drones to launch deadly attacks in mid-October. However, Tehran initially denied those claims before admitting them afterwards. However, Iran reported that the drones sent to Russia were limited and sent months before the war began.
However, Volodymyr Zelensky-the Ukrainian president responded by saying that Iran’s allegations were untrue and many more of the same drones were being used to attack Ukraine. Reports from the Ukrainian army claim that it had gunned down 10 of 15 drones used to attack the southern regions.
President Zelensky added that Russia’s latest strike on the south had left more than one million residents without power, saying that restoring it might take days. Before the United States announcement, Australia had made it public that it would sanction three Iranians and one Iranian firm for supplying drones used by the Russian army to attack Ukraine.
On Friday, US national security council spokesman said that the ultimate goal of the partnership between Iran and Russia was to produce a drone that could harm not only Ukraine but also Iranian neighbours and the international community.
Mr Kirby added that according to their obtained intelligence, Russia was collaborating with Iran in weapons development and training sectors. He added that there were concerns that Russia could be ready to supply advanced military equipment, such as air defence components and helicopters to Iran.
According to the United States security council, Iran has become Russia’s biggest proponent in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The council also believes that Russia has been utilizing drones from Iran to hit energy-critical zones in Ukraine. This has caused millions of Ukraine residents to be deprived of heat, power, and essential services.
Ivan, a 30-year-old Ukrainian citizen, worked as a security guard at a private company in Senkivka. His life was normal until the Russian aggression towards Ukraine kicked in early 2022. He had a lot to share with EAT News. He said that his family was forced to leave their home after Russian soldiers and the intermittent explosions threatened them.
“We had no choice but to flee because we couldn’t bear the situation anymore,” Ivan told EAT News. “We thought that if we stayed there, then we might die.”
John Kirby said that people in Ukraine were dying because Iran was supporting Russia. However, he was not alone. James Cleverly, United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, said that Iran had risen to become one of the leading military supporters of Russia. James added that the alliance between the two nations threatened global security. The UK Foreign secretary said the deal between Russia and Iran had seen hundreds of drones sent to Russia from Iran. On the other hand, according to James, Russia is pumping military and technical support into the Iranian regime, threatening UK partners in the Middle East and international security.
Both the UK and US governments have agreed that there is a chance that the Iranian military support for Russia will continue to increase in months to come. James attributed this to the fact that Russia has increased its appetite for more weapons, such as ballistic missiles.
Penny Wong on Saturday said that the supply of drones to Russia by Iran indicates that they have played a role in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Wong, who is the foreign minister for Australia, said that the move made by her country was to serve as a warning to any nation that supports Russia.
In addition to the listing, the Australian foreign minister also announced measures against 19 other individuals and two entities. The Iranian morality police was among the entities announced by Wong. In the announcement, the morality police were listed after their brutal treatment of anti-government protestors. The extensive use of force by the morality police caused the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old youth who died in police custody at the beginning of the year.
The ongoing war against Ukraine by Russia Has continued to affect several cities and regions in the nation. Russia’s attacks have severely hit areas such as Donbas and Bakhmut. President Zelensky was quoted saying that Bakhmut had been turned into burnt ruins. In a nutshell, the United States has declared that Iran is Russia’s top supporter in the ongoing war in Ukraine. This announcement has significant implications for the international community, suggesting that Iran actively supports Russia’s actions in the conflict. The report has also raised concerns about the potential for further escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, as the two countries have a long history of strained relations. It is crucial for the international community to monitor the situation closely and take steps to de-escalate any potential conflicts to ensure the region’s safety and stability.
