All digital Platforms to rely on Indian administration’s fact check unit in India to avoid false information is raising concerns

3 mn readIndia amended its IT law on 6th April and prohibited Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms from publishing or sharing any false information concerning any business of the administration and are said to rely on New Delhi’s own fact check unit for authenticity and credibility. Digital rights group, Internet Freedom Foundation in its statement said, ‘The notification of these amended rules cement the chilling effect on the fundamental right to speech and expression, particularly on news publishers, journalists, activists, etc. The fact check unit could effectively issue a takedown order to social media platforms and even other intermediaries across the internet stack, potentially bypassing the process statutorily prescribed under the Section 69A of the IT Act 2000’.

Census that was halted due to pandemic in India has become a matter of concern with no new brief

Started under British Viceroy Lord Mayo in 1872, the first complete census became public in 1881. It is a systematic process of acquiring, recording and calculating the population and the possible information about them. It discloses several details of literacy, employment, gender, race, age of the given population. Due to the pandemic, latest census got postponed and no new information has been released by the administration yet. Case was about a 19 year old Dalit girl who was gang raped by four men and later died in state of Uttar Pradesh. It raised several questions on caste system that is still practiced in India. Siddique along with three others were picked up by Uttar Pradesh police and was accused of being a part of Islamist fundamentalist group and to instigate violence among Muslim community around the region. Siddique belongs to the southern state of Kerala and was seen with his wife after walking free.

Constant attacks on temples and idols in Bangladesh can become a matter of concern for Indian administration

According to the information, several idols were destroyed while others were found in pond waters beside temple sites. In a statement given to a media house, Thakurgaon police’s Chief Jahangir Hossain said, ‘It clearly appears to be a case of an orchestrated attack to disrupt the peaceful situation of the country. I assure you they will have to face stern legal actions.’ Police investigation was launched immediately after it reached to them.
