India-China relations have deteriorated with time. China’s aggressive approach and India’s defense mechanism is revolving around, for a while. Both the countries have called high level meeting several times without reaching to any conclusion. Now the latest development from India’s side says that the country has managed to increase company modules for the deployed soldiers at Eastern Ladakh, LAC (Line of the actual Control). Company module is a modular shelter that have enough space to fit 100-130 soldiers. Apart from it, Indian army has also increased the number of tanks, artillery guns and other equipment’s needed at the border.

According to the information, 91 modules were available at the border to Indian troops for living in extreme weather conditions. But considering the situation, nation’s defense sector has expanded the modular shelters for up to an extent where 35,000 soldiers can be deployed with the accommodation facilities. With 45% of the required stuff already reached, garage to keep guns and tanks, 180 structures of workshops are also included. This is not wrong to say that along with Indian army getting ready for its winter season, it is also gearing up for facing stand-off with China at Ladakh border.

Srikant Singh is a defense expert and a regular panelist of several discussions. He is closely following the updates on India-China face off at LAC, from the very beginning. According to him, India has taken a fair decision to increase the troops at the border. He said, ‘We have always been defending ourselves when it comes to China and gives it the upper hand. They are the ones with an aggressive approach and attacking strategies. Keeping all the past mistakes and incidents, country has taken much needed step, something that should have been considered way before. As we have witnessed, China’s backstabbing nature frequent time.’ He further added that Indian army is a fearless unit that faces any obstacle to keep the motherland safe and will continue doing it till their last breathe.

Singh on his last visit to Ladakh for a workshop explained how some of the particular areas are completely covered under Indian army because of the geographic proximity with Chinese controlled territory. ‘I was there for a workshop and then visited the closest point to LAC with my acquaintance. I have bene there before. Surely, Indian army has expanded the numbers and the security was quite tight just the way it is required at borders. Since it is the current ongoing dispute, the place has to be secured’, he said.

As per the news, the establishment of fast erectable modular shelters have been taking place since last year at the front of border near eastern Ladakh. Fighting with extreme winters and sudden build-up of soldiers in case of any eventuality, module is passed by flying colors. Singh told EAT news, that living at LAC is nerve wracking. He said, ‘Temperature goes minus 34-40 when winters are at peak at LAC. For a human being it is not a normal environment to live. It is very normal for soldiers to go through skin diseases. Erectable modular shelters are a place that has a space with capabilities to fight with weather. Simultaneously, particular uniform saves them from the same.’

On asking, Can China repeat its actions? Singh believes, it is a puzzling assumption. He said, ‘China has never been a trusted nation for India. It’s want for dominance in southern Asian region is not promoting peace around neighboring countries. It has all the capabilities and intentions to repeat the same as its threatening nature isn’t secretive, Taiwan is a present example. But definitely, after getting global criticism for aggressive act during the Galwan valley incident in 2020, China may think wisely in future or let’s say, for latest upcoming years’. Nations like US and Russia is quite vocal about India-China relations at global platforms and are seen passing statements and comments. How much support we have from them as an Indian army? Singh said, ‘Russia is offering military support and has a tie up with us since few years now. It is India’s old friend with a decent relation. Same goes with US, it has offered tie ups and helps to India army quite a few times and shares a good relation with the country.’

The defense budget for the financial year 2022-23 is Rs 5,25,166 crore. There is a jump of 46,970 crores in comparison last year. According to the information, India is spending third highest in the world in military sector. ‘Under current administration, military sector got strengthen and is under much focused areas. Looking at the global crisis, India’s decision to expand its defense and with an indigenous approach to its military equipment’s is a perfect decision’, said Srikant Singh. India is celebrating its 75 years of independence this year and India surely, has come a long way with its military force and global significance.
